Most mail-in rebates arrive 6 to 8 weeks after the company receives or approves your submission. Some take up to 12 weeks, and phone carriers can pay in 2 to 3 weeks.
A few things make the biggest difference to the wait:
- The clock starts late. Most companies count from when they have your paperwork, not from when you mail it.
- Online is quicker. Submitting online often saves about two weeks over mailing a form.
- It’s probably a card. Most rebates now come as a prepaid card, and it expires in about six months.
- A late rebate usually has a reason. The offer’s status page or the rebate processor can tell you what’s holding it up.
Rebate payout times by company
Most companies quote the same 6-to-8-week window in their own rebate terms. Here’s what each one says, and how it pays.

|---|---|---|
| Menards | 6–8 weeks | Store credit check |
| Lowe’s | 6–8 weeks | Prepaid Mastercard |
| Home Depot | 6–8 weeks online, 8–10 by mail | Prepaid Visa |
| Samsung | About 12 weeks from approval | Prepaid Mastercard |
| GE Appliances | 6–8 weeks online, 8–10 by mail | Prepaid Mastercard |
| Goodyear | 6–8 weeks | Prepaid card |
| Michelin | 6–8 weeks | Visa reward card |
| Bridgestone | 4–8 weeks, plus mail time for a card | Prepaid card |
| General Tire | 8–12 weeks | Prepaid Mastercard |
| T-Mobile | About 15 days | Virtual prepaid Mastercard |
| AT&T | Usually within 3 weeks | Visa reward card |
| Verizon | 8–10 weeks | Gift card or prepaid Mastercard |

Why rebates take longer than promised
Most of the wait happens after the company has your paperwork, and that’s usually when its clock starts. The days your form spends in the mail, and in line for review, come on top of the 6 to 8 weeks.
The review is usually done by a rebate processor, often a separate company the brand or store has hired. It checks your receipt, UPC and form against the offer’s terms. Status pages call a submission that passes “approved” or “validated”, and some companies, Samsung for one, count their timeline from that point.
The most common reasons for a longer wait:
- Missing or mismatched paperwork. A receipt that doesn’t show the item or date, the wrong UPC, or a blank field can put a submission on hold or get it rejected.
- Mail, both ways. Days in the mail when you send the form, and again when a check or card comes back.
- Busy seasons. Rebates from Black Friday and other big sales reach processors all at once, so reviews back up.
- Payments that look like junk mail. Rebate checks sometimes arrive in envelopes or postcards that are easy to throw away, the Minnesota Attorney General warns.
- A wrong address. A typo, or a move after you submit, sends the money somewhere else.
How to get your rebate faster
- Submit online if you can. GE quotes 6–8 weeks online and 8–10 weeks by mail, and Home Depot’s Bosch offer gave the same split. Many tire rebates, including Michelin’s and Bridgestone’s, are online only.
- Choose a virtual card if you’re offered one. Michelin says it arrives 5–14 days sooner than a card in the mail.
- Send everything the offer asks for. Check that the receipt shows the item and date, the UPC matches, and every field on the form is filled in.
- Submit soon after you buy. The wait starts when the company has your paperwork, so the sooner it’s in, the sooner you’re paid. Deadlines can be short, too: Bridgestone’s October 2026 offer closed 10 days after the end of the purchase month.
- Keep copies until you’re paid. Save the receipt, the UPC, the form, your confirmation number and a screenshot of the offer’s terms. Hold on to them until the money has arrived and the card is spent.
What to do if your rebate is late
Check the status page first, then contact the rebate processor with your details in hand. Escalate only if that goes nowhere, and note every date and every person you talk to.
- Check the status page. Its web address or phone number is on the rebate form or the offer page. Have your confirmation or tracking number ready.
- Make sure it’s really late. If the terms say “6–8 weeks after approval”, add the review time before you count.
- Contact the rebate processor. Give the offer number, purchase date, amount and the date you submitted, and ask what’s holding it up.
- Fix any problem quickly. If it’s on hold for a missing or unreadable document, ask whether you can resend it, and by when. Send copies, never your only originals.
- Go to the brand or store. If the processor stalls, contact the manufacturer or retailer named on the rebate. They hired the processor and can often push it along.
- File a complaint. Report it to your state attorney general’s consumer protection office and to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. The Minnesota Attorney General also suggests checking the company with the Better Business Bureau.
How long companies have to pay you
A company should pay within the time its offer promises. If the offer names no time, the Federal Trade Commission has required payment within 30 days in past enforcement orders (UMAX, 2000; Philips and Prime Peripherals, 2002). Two states set a firm deadline by law:
- New York: 60 days from when the company receives a valid request. Offers must give you at least 14 days from purchase to submit, and say up front if they pay with a prepaid card, gift card or credit, and whether there are fees (Gen. Bus. Law § 391-q).
- North Carolina: 60 days from when the company receives a completed form, or the day you submit online, so the clock waits for anything that’s missing. Offers must give you at least 30 days to submit and list a phone number or email for the company. Rebates of $5 or less are exempt (Gen. Stat. § 75-40).
Other states may have their own rules, so check your state attorney general’s consumer page if a rebate is badly overdue. Don’t count on a California deadline: a 2004 bill with a similar 60-day rule was vetoed.

Common questions
Will I get a check or a prepaid card?
Most likely a prepaid card. Every company in the list above except Menards now pays with a prepaid Visa or Mastercard, physical or virtual, or a store gift card. Menards pays with a merchandise credit check you can spend only in its stores.
Do prepaid rebate cards expire?
Yes, usually about six months after they’re issued, and whatever is left on the card is lost after that. Goodyear, Michelin, Bridgestone, Verizon and T-Mobile all set roughly six months (Michelin FAQ, Verizon FAQ, T-Mobile). Some virtual payments also have to be claimed within three months of being sent, as in Lowe’s 2026 paint offer. Fees can apply too: Michelin’s FAQ says yes to fees, including for checking the balance by phone.
How long do I have to submit a rebate?
Often less time than you’d think. Bridgestone’s October 2026 offer had to be received within 10 days after the purchase month ended, and Michelin allows 15–30 days after the sales period. Lowe’s and Samsung allow 30 days after the offer ends, and Verizon 60 days from purchase. By law, New York requires at least 14 days and North Carolina at least 30.
When should I follow up on a rebate?
Once the stated wait has passed, counted from the right starting point. Lowe’s says to check its rebate center if nothing has arrived after 10 weeks, and Bridgestone suggests checking status after 4 weeks.
