Questions

How long does a landlord have to return a security deposit in Pennsylvania?

Pennsylvania landlords have 30 days after your lease ends, or after they accept the keys back if that’s sooner, to return your deposit, with a written list of any damage they’re keeping it for.

What if my landlord in Pennsylvania misses the deadline?

Ask for your deposit in writing, mention the law (68 P.S. § 250.512), and keep a copy. In many states a landlord who misses the deadline loses the right to keep any of it, and some owe a penalty on top. Pennsylvania’s law says what applies there; a local legal aid office can help if you’re stuck.

Do I need to give my landlord a forwarding address in Pennsylvania?

Give your landlord your new address in writing when you move out. If you don’t, this law can’t help you.
